Penelope Gkika

VIOLINIST

Penelope Gkika is a Greek violinist based in Berlin whose musical activities explore a wide spectrum between tradition and experimentation. Trained in classical violin, she has since expanded her artistic focus to embrace a rich sound world, with a special emphasis on the modal music of the Eastern Mediterranean, including Arabic, Turkish, Greek, Balkan, and Italian traditions.

She is a founding member of the Twin Flames Ensemble, Farmagia, Arcangel Trio, and Reverse Mode, all of which explore Greek traditional music in its original forms as well as through contemporary, experimental reinterpretations. She has released two albums: Mora (Reverse Mode) and The Golden Sheep (Arcangel Trio) as well as solo singles.

Beyond her work in traditional music, Penelope is an active performer of contemporary classical and experimental music. Her solo projects blend layered violin, electronics, drone, extended techniques, and modal elements, creating immersive sonic landscapes.
